Massage for Relief from Allergies

This season, allergy sufferers are experiencing one of the worst seasons in recent history. The copious amount of rain, the warm weather, and strong breezes are making for a storm of pollen. We know how debilitating it can be to have to deal with allergies on a regular basis. It’s almost impossible to go about your day-to-day activities! Here are some of the suggestions experts have made to stave off the worst of your allergies.

Close Those Windows

It may seem nice to allow natural air to come through your home and naturally cool it down, but that soft spring breeze brings with it a plethora of pollen. Keep those windows closed to keep the pollen out.

If you’ve had the windows open and noticed a change in your allergy reactions, consider having your vents cleaned out as well. Pollen will rest in the slats of vents and fly about every time the air kicks on. It’s best to have them cleaned out, and then keep the windows closed as often as possible to keep all that pollen out.

Take a Shower

You may not be able to do this every day, but it is suggested to take off all of your clothes and shoes when you get home and take a shower to wash all of the pollen from your body. If you tend to do a lot of walking outside, try to carve out enough time at night after work to do this before you do anything else.

Get a Massage

A massage is so much more than a luxury as popular opinion would have you believe. A good facial massage will drain your sinuses and give you relief from the pain of allergies. Starting a facial massage with a warm towel around the forehead, bridge of nose and around the eye area softens the muscles and relaxes the sinuses. Soft strokes around the forehead moves the congestion, then circular pressure on sinus pressure points around the forehead, eyeballs, bridge of nose, side of nose, and jawbone releases the pressure even further as the massage moves to loosen the muscles in your neck promoting drainage.

Most who receive a facial massage will experience relief for up to two or three weeks. Combined with our suggested essential oils, like peppermint, eucalyptus and others,  your allergy pain will be almost non-existent with these suggestions!
