It’s inevitable; this time of year, you’re ready to shed the weight of all the gluttonous habits you picked up near the end of last year. We don’t blame you. It’s a new year, and you want to celebrate it with a healthier outlook! Of course, you must start with a good exercise and meal routine, but as you know, every little bit counts. We’ve put together the top 3 essential oils we believe will help you on your journey to better overall health.
- Grapefruit Oil
You’ve heard of the grapefruit diet; you may have even heard of the multitude of studies that show grapefruits help you lose weight. Grapefruit essential oil works with our body in activating enzymes to help it break down brown body fat (the bad fat). The essential oil of grapefruit is very high in certain compounds like D-limonene and helps support your metabolism as it cleanses and drains your lymphatic glands.
Grapefruit essential oil is also a lymphatic stimulant and diuretic, which is why it’s included in many cellulite creams. Mix Grapefruit oil with patchouli oil to lower cravings and hunger. Add a few drops to your water, diffuse it, or massage it into your chest and wrists when you feel a craving.
- Cinnamon Oil
Cinnamon is another ingredient that is often referred to in diet plans, and recommended for weight loss. Adding cinnamon to your healthy foods will help over time in regulating blood glucose. Using Cinnamon oil will accelerate the process due to its high potency. Cinnamon oil not only regulates blood glucose levels it also regulates your body’s glucose tolerance factor (*making it an excellent choice for those with diabetes).
Balancing your blood sugar will help reduce cravings, overeating and weight gain. When your body is in balance you also tend to eat less (or, rather, the right amount). Add cinnamon oil to tea, baked goods, smoothies, or any other food you wish to help slow the rate at which glucose is being released into your blood.
- Ginger Oil
Again, with ginger, in food state, it’s often recommended to be added to any dish you can to help with weight loss. The same goes for the essential oil. Ginger, like cinnamon, reduces sugar cravings, however, it also helps reduce inflammation in the body. For many of us, weight loss is more than just physical fat loss, it’s weight attributed to inflammation as well.
The compounds in ginger, gingerols, have been scientifically proven to reduce disease-causing inflammation in intestines and have shown to improve absorption of the vitamins and minerals you consume. The more you get out of those vitamins and minerals, the less you crave and the better shape your body’s cellular energy is in. Add drops to your consumables-food, drinks-or to a carrier oil, such as coconut and rub on to your chest and neck (you can do this with cinnamon or grapefruit too). You can diffuse the scent as well.
